While our world has changed so much since Father Baker’s death in 1936, one thing has not: the organizations that have evolved from his “City of Charity” still thrive, continuing his legacy of caring for those in need. Father Baker died more than 80-years ago, but his legacy as “Padre of the Poor” remains at Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna and at Baker Victory Services. Father Baker’s 60 years in the priesthood were spent sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, caring for the sick and giving hope to the destitute.
